Vor dem Black Stone Cherry<\/a>–Gig<\/a> im K\u00f6lner E-Werk, hatten wir kurz Zeit, uns mit dem S\u00e4nger der aufstrebenden Southern Rock Band The Georgia Thunderbolts<\/a>, TJ Lyle, zu unterhalten. Bei herrlichem Wetter, kam es vor dem Geb\u00e4ude, in dem fr\u00fcher die Harald Schmidt-Show produziert wurde, zu folgendem Interview:<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Wie kam es zu eurer Bandgr\u00fcndung und speziell dem Namen? Hat er was mit eurem Temperament und eurer Durchschlagskraft zu tun?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Oh, wir kamen Ende 2015, Anfang 2016 zusammen. Wir stammen alle aus der gleichen Gegend. Logan, der Bassist, Zach der Rhythmusgitarrist und ich. Wir sind alle zusammen aufgewachsen. Die anderen trafen wir bei einer Sessionveranstaltung. Wir beschlossen zusammen zu spielen, gingen auf die B\u00fchne, und bekamen einen Preis und seitdem machen wir das zusammen und sind gl\u00fccklich dar\u00fcber. Mit dem Namen kam unserer Manager Richard Young um die Ecke, der ist der Vater von Black Stone Cherry-Drummer John Young. So haben wir ihn genommen, er wei\u00df eigentlich mehr dar\u00fcber. Er wollte das so \u00e4hnlich und so ist es jetzt, wie es ist.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Ihr seid ja durch unsere Berichterstattung hier megabekannt ?. Mit welcher Erwartungshaltung kommt ihr nach Deutschland?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Wir haben von den Black Stone Cherry-Jungs geh\u00f6rt, dass das Publikum hier sehr aufnahmef\u00e4hig f\u00fcr unsere Art von Musik ist. So bedeutet es eine Menge f\u00fcr uns, f\u00fcr diese Leute und Fans zu spielen, vor allem, weil die Leute hier nicht so oft die Gelegenheit haben, diese Musik zu h\u00f6ren. In den Staaten ist jeder nur darauf basiert, der n\u00e4chste gro\u00dfe Act zu werden. Wir wollen eher eine tiefgr\u00fcndige Beziehung zu unseren Fans aufbauen und geben deshalb immer alles f\u00fcr sie. Aber es macht nat\u00fcrlich auch riesig Spa\u00df. Es wird eine energiegeladene Show, es wird gut werden.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Ist es von Vorteil direkt von einer hier bereits beliebten und bekannten Band wie Black Stone Cherry ins Schlepptau genommen zu werden oder erh\u00f6ht das eher den Druck?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Man muss nat\u00fcrlich eine Menge Dampf ablassen, somit ist demnach schon ordentlich Druck da. Aber es geht darum, erstmal hier zu sein, Spa\u00df miteinander zu haben, Verbindungen entstehen zu lassen.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Was k\u00f6nnt ihr von Black Stone Cherry noch lernen?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Oh, wie man ein guter Mensch und ein prima Volk wird. Sie sind wirklich ein tolles Beispiel daf\u00fcr aufgeschlossen zu sein und wir w\u00e4ren ohne sie nicht hier. Sie sind wie Vorbilder, zu den wir aufsehen, ungef\u00e4hr wie \u00e4ltere Br\u00fcder, und wir k\u00f6nnen viel von ihnen lernen, zum Beispiel wie sie auftreten, ihre B\u00fchnenenergie, ja, wirklich fast alles, besonders ihre Ausdauer.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Wie siehst du die momentane Situation im Southern Rock. Von den einstigen Zugpferden kommt, bis auf die Outlaws<\/a> vielleicht, kreativ so gut wie garnichts mehr. Daf\u00fcr machen junge Acts wie ihr und einige andere viel Freude. Wie wird sich das weiterentwickeln?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Es ist im Moment eine coole Zeit. Es gibt in den Staaten wieder eine gro\u00dfe Bewegung in Sachen Southern Rock. Es scheint, als wenn zur Zeit alle aus ihren L\u00f6chern kriechen, um einen neuen Sound zu kreieren, woher sie kommen und ihre pers\u00f6nliche Note damit zu verbinden. Im Gro\u00dfen und Ganzen ist Southern Rock f\u00fcr mich, sich gut zu f\u00fchlen und zu zeigen, wo man her ist. Wir sind einfach eine Rock ’n Roll-Band aus dem S\u00fcden. Das ist, was wir alle (vier) sind. Jetzt gerade ist eine sehr kreative Zeit. Du verlierst dich manchmal in ihr, aber du musst versuchen Lieder aus dem Herz heraus zu schreiben. Das ist es, was diese Musik auszeichnet. Musik von ganzem Herzen!<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Ich habe deine Stimme in meinen Reviews mit der des jungen Johnny Van Zants auf seinen fr\u00fchen Solowerken verglichen. Kennst du die Scheiben? Liege ich da richtig, wie siehst du das?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Ich denke, das ist eine gro\u00dfe Ehre und ein gro\u00dfes Kompliment. Es ist eine verruchte Familie, haha, nein, es ist eine legend\u00e4re Familie. Was sie zu erz\u00e4hlen haben ist das, was wir heute als Southern Rock kennen. Es ist wirklich ein wahnsinnig gro\u00dfes Kompliment und ich sch\u00e4tze das wirklich sehr. das ist gro\u00dfartig!<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South<\/span>: Wer ist dein musikalisches Vorbild?
TJ Lyle\u00a0 (mit Fotograf Gernot im Duett): <\/span>Paul Rodgers (TJ tr\u00e4gt w\u00e4hrend des Interviews ein T-Shirt mit seinem Abbild)! Er ist der Gr\u00f6\u00dfte!<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Wovon l\u00e4sst du dich beim Songwriting inspirieren?
TJ Lyle:<\/span> Oh Mann, das ist eine schwierige Frage. Es \u00e4ndert sich immer die ganze Zeit. Meist spielt Gef\u00fchl dabei eine gro\u00dfe Rolle oder Dinge, die ich selbst oder mir nahestehende Personen durchlebt haben. Es geht oft um das allt\u00e4gliche Leben, deshalb mache ich es. Auch, weil nicht jeder eine Stimme hat und f\u00fcr sich sprechen kann. Es ist, wenn ich auf die B\u00fchne gehe, wie als wenn ich versuche, f\u00fcr andere die Stimme zu erheben, die es nicht k\u00f6nnen. Das ist schwer, aber daf\u00fcr mache ich es wirklich. Daraus nehme ich den Drive und die Motivation, \u00fcber Leute nachzudenken, die das nicht artikulieren k\u00f6nnen. Das ist f\u00fcr mich selbstverst\u00e4ndlich.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Gibt es schon Pl\u00e4ne f\u00fcr ein kommendes Album?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Ja, wir haben gerade unseren neuen Song „Livin‘ In Muddy Water“ ver\u00f6ffentlicht und wenn wir wieder zuhause sind, machen wir uns an den n\u00e4chsten Longplayer ran.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Was macht ihr in eurer Freizeit?
TJ Lyle: <\/span> Wir essen (und trinken) gerne. Wir versuchen Spa\u00df zu haben, und jetzt wo wir hier sind, laufen wir rum und versuchen, soviel wie m\u00f6glich zu sehen. Es hat mich echt umgehauen, dass hier eine Harley Davidson-Werkstatt direkt um die Ecke ist, weil, bei uns zu Hause stehen die Dinger n\u00e4mlich \u00fcberall rum. Wow, das ist schon verr\u00fcckt. Und jetzt sind wir gleich hier und es wird ehrlich gut werden!<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Welcome to Germany T.J.! How did it come to the formation of the band and the name The Georgia Thunderbolts? Does it have anything to do with your temperament and your power of impact?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Oh, we got together in late 2015 and early 2016. We all are coming around from the same area. So we got together, we met each other, Logan and me and Zach, the bass player, the rhythm guitar and myself. We grew up together. The other person really we met playing an open mic one night, We kinda got together, and you know, we got on stage, we thought of playing and gotta get the ballroom from there and we’ve doing ever since, and we’ve really been so fortunate. Our manager Richard Young actually come up with that name, he is the dad from John from Black Stone Cherry, that’s how we get rollin‘ with that. He knows a lot more about that, we do, but he was craving with something like that and that’s kinda were we are now.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>You are really well known through our reporting here in Germany. What expectations do you have for coming to Germany?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> We just heard from the Black Stone Cherry guys that the audience here is perceptive to our kind of music so I think it means a lot to us to be here to play for these people and get these fans and stuff and the biggest part is playing in front of somebody who doesn’t get that kind of music often. You know, cause for us everybody’s attention in the States has been so fast on to the next thing. So we’re just really in depth with our fans and we wanna give everything we can. It is really exciting.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Is it advantageous to be taken directly into tow by an already popular and well-known band like Black Stone Cherry or does this rather increase the pressure?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> You really want to turn the steam up so there is a lot of pressure, but it’s just all about getting there and having fun with each other. Like I said making that connection, so it is gonna be a drlling show, it’s gonna be good.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>What can you still learn from Black Stone Cherry?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Oh, how to be a good person and goody people you know they set a great example by being such outgoing guys you know and if we won’t be for them we won’t be here they are kinda like role models we look up to like older brothers you know and we can learn a lot from them just by the way they act, and the stage energy and just really everything, their endurance!<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>How do you see the current situation in Southern Rock? From the former crowd puller, except for the outlaws perhaps, creatively comes almost nothing more. But young acts like her and some others are a lot of fun. How will this evolve?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> I think it is really cool, there’s a big movement going on in the states right now in Southern Rock, and it seems like everybody is coming out of the wood work now and try and find a creative sound about where they are from and kinda give on them their taste. Basically Southern Rock for me is a taste of feeling good and it is where you come from. And we are just a Rock’N’Roll band from the South. I mean that’s what anybody really is. Now it is very creative. You get lost in it sometimes, but trying to write songs that aren’t from the heart and that is what all about that music is. From the heart at all, a lot of it is so.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>I compared your voice in my reviews to that of the young Johnny Van Zants on his early solo works. Do you know the discs? If I’m right, how do you see that?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> I think it is a great honor and a compliment because you know that is a taunted family, haha, it is a legendary family, those guys really said what it is that we know today as Southern Rock. So I mean that is a huge compliment and I appreciate that very much. That is awesome!<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Who is your musical ideal?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Defenitly Paul Rodgers, absolutely, he is the man he is (TJ is wearing a Paul Rodgers-T-shirt during the interview)!<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>What inspires you in songwriting?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Oh man that is a tough one. It changes all the time you know. Mostly a lot of feelings and stuff that I have lived through or I have seen close people they have lived to and it is just about everyday life and that’s why I do it. It is because not everybody has a voice and you know not everybody can speak, so when I get on stage I try to speak for people who can‘ do it theirselves and you know it is hard. That is were I really get it from. That’s where I get the drive, the motivation, just thinking about people who can’t do that. I’m not gonna take it for granted at all.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>Are there any plans for a new album?
TJ Lyle:\u00a0<\/span> Yeah, actually today we released our new song \u201eLiving In Muddy Water\u201c and when we come back home by time we gonna get in the studio and work on a full length.<\/p>\n

Sounds Of South: <\/span>What do you guys do infree time?
TJ Lyle:<\/span> Well, we like to eat (and drink). We try to enjoy ourselves and now that we are here we walk around and check out the sides and you know see everything that we can, you know it blew me away that there is a Harley Davidson rep there, ‚cause on every corner at home there is a Harley Davidson, wow. That is kind of crazy. And we just have to be here you know honestly it is gonna be a good time.<\/p>\n
