Juke Joint Jonny und seine Gleichgesinnten (Kindred Spirits) das sind nat\u00fcrlich Juke Joint Jonny selbst (6- und 12-saitige Gitarre sowie Steel Guitar), Steve Rusin (Mundharmonika, Gitarre), Dave Peterson (E-Bass), Ben Bernstein (Kontrabass, Basstrommel) und Mike Stevens (Percussion und Maultrommel). Allein die Instrumentierung zeigt schon, dass es sich bei Juke Joint Jonny\u2018s neuer Scheibe \u201eJust Folkin Around\u201c um ein traditionelles \u0152vre handelt.<\/p>\n

Und tats\u00e4chlich ist es eine sehr klassische Bluesscheibe, beeinflusst vom Blues der 50\u2018er Jahre. Juke Joint Jonny\u2018s Stil ist daher auch eine Mischung aus Deltablues, Piedmondblues mit Ragtime Anleihen und teilweise dezent mit Chicagoblues gew\u00fcrzt.<\/p>\n

Auf \u201eJust Folking Around\u201c sind zw\u00f6lf Songs verewigt, von denen elf Tracks Coverversionen bekannter Bluestraditionals von u. a. Taj Mahal (\u201eDone Changed My Way Of Living\u201c, \u201eFishin Blues\u201c), Willie Dixon (\u201eDon\u2018t Go No Further\u201c), Robert John & Elmore James (\u201eDust My Broom\u201c) und Leo Kottke (\u201eSailor\u2019s Grave On The Prairie\u201c) sind. Aber auch eine Version von Dylans Ballade \u201eTomorrow Was A Long Time\u201c ist mit dabei. Lediglich \u201eTerre Haute Blues\u201c ist eine Eigenkomposition von Juke Joint Jonny und Steve Rusin.<\/p>\n

Was die eher ruhige Scheibe absolut h\u00f6renswert macht, sind Juke Joint Jonny\u2018s Gitarrenk\u00fcnste an der Steel-Guitar und sein Fingerpicking auf der Akustikgitarre. Leider gibt es das sonst nur noch selten durchg\u00e4ngig auf einer Platte zu h\u00f6ren. Insgesamt f\u00e4llt es schwer einen der Songs als besonders gut hervorzuheben, sie sind nach meiner Ansicht alle herausragend. Wenn \u00fcberhaupt, dann sind es \u201eDirty Rat\u201c und \u201eTerre Haut Blues\u201c mit leichten Ragtime-Einfl\u00fcssen sowie das urspr\u00fcnglich von Leo Kottke stammende Instrumentalst\u00fcck \u201eSailor\u2018s Grave On The Prairie\u201c.<\/p>\n

\u201eJust Folkin Around\u201c ist ein echter Bluesleckerbissen f\u00fcr Traditionalisten und insbesondere f\u00fcr Fans des Deltablues. Mich hat die Scheibe jedenfalls total begeistert. Hoffentlich findet sie reichlich K\u00e4ufer, auch wenn \u201eJuke Joint Jonny And The Kindred Spirits\u201c hierzulande noch recht unbekannt sein d\u00fcrften. Es w\u00e4re den Jungs zu g\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n
