\nPaul Cauthen: Mich freute, dass die Leute in Deutschland so freundlich waren und sie meine Musik sehr gut aufgenommen haben. Sie haben uns mit offenen Armen und famili\u00e4r empfangen. Ich spielte eine verr\u00fcckte Show in der N\u00e4he von Berlin und als wir zur\u00fcck nach Berlin fuhren, haben wir zu viel getrunken. Berlin hat mich etwas mitgenommen. Aber ja, es gibt wunderbare Leute hier in Deutschland. N\u00e4chstes Jahr werde ich wiederkommen. Wir touren durch die Staaten und dann, wahrscheinlich im September oder Oktober, komme ich wieder hierhin zur\u00fcck.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Wei\u00dft Du, ich wollte mit den Sounds experimentieren. Ich wollte nicht in eine Schublade gesteckt werden, in der ich so oder so klingen muss. Ich will mich cool und frisch anh\u00f6ren \u2013 nicht so, wie etwas, das Du jeden Tag im Radio h\u00f6rst. Ich schloss die Drum-Maschine und andere Dinge an, um den Sound funkier zu machen, weil ich es liebe, wie es sich anf\u00fchlt.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Die n\u00e4chste Musik, die ich machen werde, wird ein gutes altes Country-Album, denke ich. Ich h\u00f6re viele Aufnahmen von Merle Haggard und Waylon Jennings und ich glaube, dass eine Platte mit traditionellem Country gut sein wird – eine, die konsequent Country ist und nicht wirklich Gospel wie meine erste. Sie war Gospel und eine Art R&B.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Ich w\u00fcrde nat\u00fcrlich gerne mit Rick Rubin zusammenarbeiten (lacht) oder mit T-Bone Burnett. Ich w\u00fcrde gerne mit Dan Auerbach von The Black Keys oder Jack White arbeiten \u2013 mit Leuten, die anders sind als ich und meine bisherigen Aufnahmen. Ich kann das tun, was ich tue, aber mit welchem Produzenten kann ich arbeiten, der mich dazu bringt, \u00fcber meine eigenen Grenzen hinauszudenken?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Ja, ich und andere Leute hatten uns tief in das Album vergraben. Ich habe f\u00fcr zwei Jahre in einem Hotelraum gelebt, nachdem meine Verlobte und ich uns getrennt hatten. Wir wollten heiraten, aber wir trennten uns kurz vor der Hochzeit. So fand ich mich in diesem Hotel wieder und machte das ganze Album. Die Aussage ist: Egal wie tief du im Leben sinkst, du kannst dich selbst da heraus ziehen mit Hilfe einer guten Familie und Freunden, die bei dir sind. Umgib dich mit guten Leuten! Wir alle haben H\u00f6hen und Tiefen. Wir m\u00fcssen uns durchk\u00e4mpfen, \u00fcberleben.
\nIch denke, dass ich zur rechten Zeit mit den richtigen\u00a0Personen zusammen war und dieser Geist war w\u00e4hrend der Aufnahme lebendig. Wir waren verr\u00fcckt zu dieser Zeit, sind sp\u00e4t aufgestanden, haben Frauen aufgerissen, wie wahnsinnig Rock \u2018n Roll gespielt – aber gleichzeitig waren wir einsam und \u00e4ngstlich in der Dunkelheit. Wir waren zugleich weinend und fr\u00f6hlich, traurig und verdammt gl\u00fccklich. Ich musste ehrlich sein und auf meine Gef\u00fchle und Stimmung h\u00f6ren.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Ja nat\u00fcrlich. Mein Favorit ist wohl \u201cGive \u2018Em Peace\u201d. Das ist meine Botschaft an die ganze Welt, weil jeder einen Bezug zu dieser alten Botschaft hat. Viele Leute sagten dies vor mir \u2013 John Lennon und jeder sonst. Normalerweise werden Leute, die das sagen, erschossen (lacht). Aber wei\u00dft Du, ich f\u00fchle, dass es auf uns ankommt. Zum Beispiel, wenn du auf deinem Weg zur Arbeit jemanden siehst, der Hilfe braucht und du gibst ihm etwas. Wenn du so in deinem t\u00e4glichen Gesch\u00e4ft t\u00e4tig bist und wenn das jeder so macht, wird die Welt besser. Wir m\u00fcssen das zusammen machen, weil keine einzelne Person die Welt ver\u00e4ndern kann.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Ja, der Western. Wir machten das Video drau\u00dfen in der W\u00fcste. Wir schnitten es in der N\u00e4he von Joshua Tree mit. Wir hatten einen Haufen wundersch\u00f6ner Frauen aus Los Angeles. Sie kamen rein, als meine Freundin da war. Ich sollte mit diesen Frauen spielen und meine Freundin war \u201eWoaahh\u201c (lacht). Oh Mann, es war wunderbar. Gute Leute und gute Schauspieler waren dabei. Es schafft eine tolle Zeit, wenn du alle auf eine Wellenl\u00e4nge bringst, wenn du versuchst, kreativ zu sein und als Einheit zusammenarbeitest. Es f\u00fchlt sich an, als w\u00e4rst du in der Champion League. Du f\u00fchlst dich wie ein Champion \u2013 wie Freddie Mercury.
\nDiese Videos sind mir sehr wichtig. Ich glaube, eine visuelle Aussage kann das gesamte Verst\u00e4ndnis eines Songs ver\u00e4ndern und die Weise, wie jemand \u00fcber ihn denkt. Als K\u00fcnstler arbeitet es in einem ganz anderen Bereich des Gehirns. Du kannst eher mit Bildern arbeiten, als Musik zu h\u00f6ren. Es erreicht die jungen Leute \u00fcber all die Plattformen und M\u00f6glichkeiten, die es gibt. Traurig, aber das Radio wird \u00e4lter und weniger wichtig. Soziale Medien sind schneller.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Ich liebe alle Westernfilme. Ich liebe John Wayne und \u201cThe Good, The Bad and The Ugly\u201d \u2013 alle diese Spaghetti-Western. Sie sind sch\u00f6n gemacht, haben gute Stories und es macht Spa\u00df, sie anzuschauen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Ich w\u00fcrde in einem Film wahrscheinlich den Helden spielen. Ich will John Wayne sein (lacht)! Der B\u00f6sewicht w\u00e4re auch cool. Der Schurke zu sein, bringt auch eine Menge Spa\u00df. Aber normalerweise wirst du get\u00f6tet \u2013 hoffentlich (lacht).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: I enjoyed that the people in Germany were so kind and their very good reception to the music. They really opened their arms and embraced us as a family when we came over here. I played a crazy show outside Berlin, and then we went to Berlin and we drank too much. Berlin kind of stung me a little bit. But yeah, beautiful people here in Germany. Next year I\u2019ll be back. We do our tour in the States and then, probably September or October of next year I\u2019ll come back here.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Yeah, you know, I wanted to experiment with the sounds. I didn\u2019t want to be put in a box where I have to sound like this or to sound like that. I want to sound cool and fresh \u2013 not just like something what you hear every time you turn on the radio. I put a drum-machine on and some other stuff to make it sound funkier. Because I love how this makes me feel.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: I think the next music I\u2019ll make is probably going to be just a good old country record, you know. I am listening to a lot of Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings records and I think just a good old country record would be good. Something that is strictly country and not really gospel like my first one. It was gospel and kind of R&B.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Yeah, I would love to work with Rick Rubin (laughs) of course, or with T-Bone Burnett. I\u2019d like to work with Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys or Jack White \u2013 people that would be different than just me and my normal records. Cause I can do what I do, but what producer can I work with, that makes me thinking outside of my own box?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Yeah, me and another couple of people actually had our hands deep into this record. I was in a hotel for two years and I had just broken up with my fianc\u00e9. We were gonna get married when we broke up before our wedding. And I ended up living in this hotel and doing this whole record. The message is: No matter how low you might get in life you can always pull yourself out with good family and friends around you. Just surround yourself with good people! You know, we all have our ups and downs. We have to fight through, be a survivor.
\nI think I was together at the right time with the right people and the spirit was alive during this record. We\u2019ve been crazy at these times – staying up late, hooking up girls, playing rock and roll like crazy \u2013 beside being alone in the dark and scared. Crying and happy \u2013 sad and hell of glad \u2013 all in one. I just had to be honest, listening to my soul and spirit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Yeah of course, my favourite is probably \u201cGive \u2018Em Peace\u201d. It is just my message to the whole world, because everybody can relate to this old message. Many people said it before me \u2013 John Lennon and everybody else. Usually people that say that get shot (laughs). But you know, I just feel like it\u2019s up to us. Like when you\u2019re on your walk to work and you see somebody that may need some help lending to helping them then. Like, be active in your day to day walk and if everybody does this, the world is better. Because not one person alone can change the world, we have to do it together.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: Yeah, the Western. We made it all out in the desert. We cut the video out near Joshua tree. And we got a bunch of beautiful girls from Los Angeles. They came in and my girlfriend was there. I gonna act with these girls and my girlfriend was like \u201cWoaahh\u201d. Yes, it was beautiful, man. Good people and good artists all around. It just creates a good time when you get everybody on the same level, if you try to be creative and work together as a unit. It kinda feels like you are on a Champions league. You feel like you\u2019re already champions \u2013 like Freddie Mercury.
\nThese videos are very important to me. I think visual messages can change the whole comprehension of a song and how somebody thinks about it. And it works in a whole different side of your brain as an artist. You can work on some visuals rather than listening to the music. It reaches the young people, through the platforms and other opportunities you have. It\u2019s sad \u2013 but radios getting older and becoming smaller and social medias are faster.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: I love western films. Love \u2018em all. I love John Wayne and \u201cThe Good, The Bad and The Ugly\u201d \u2013 all these spaghetti westerns. They are all just beautifully made, good stories and fun to watch.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nPaul Cauthen: If I was playing in a film, probably the hero. I wanna be John Wayne (laughs)! Man, a villain would be cool too, being the bad guy is fun. But you usually end up being killed hopefully (laughs).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
