Sounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Herzlichen Gl\u00fcckwunsch zun\u00e4chst nochmal zu eurem starken Album „Cowboy Up“. Wie sieht die aktuelle Situation bei euch aus, auf eurer Homepage geizt ihr ja noch ein wenig mit ausf\u00fchrlicheren Informationen?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Die Situation bei uns ist im Moment klasse. Wir arbeiten mit Hochdruck daran, die Homepage mit Leben zu f\u00fcllen, was nat\u00fcrlich l\u00e4ngst \u00fcberf\u00e4llig war. Allerdings investieren wir auch schon viel Zeit in ein neues Album.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Es scheint als w\u00e4ren Randy Solski und du die treibenden Kr\u00e4fte der Band. Wie ist die Chemie im allgemeinen unter euch?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Obwohl Randy und ich als Songschreiber und auch als Produktionsteam meist im Vordergrund stehen, stimmt die Chemie unter uns. Wir sind wie f\u00fcnf Br\u00fcder, die alles f\u00fcr einander tun w\u00fcrden.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Wie kamt ihr auf die Idee, Countrymusik mit harten Gitarrenriffs zu verbinden?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Wenn jemand f\u00fcr so etwas wie die Entwicklung des speziellen Sounds von Dry County<\/i> geehrt werden w\u00fcrde, dann w\u00e4re es sicherlich Randy<\/i>. Ich k\u00f6nnte schw\u00f6ren, er schl\u00e4ft nie. Er feilt fast wie ein Besessener st\u00e4ndig an unserem Sound und analysiert jeden Aspekt einer Dry County<\/i>-Show.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Stimmt ihr mit mir \u00fcberein, dass „Cowboy Up“ ein Album f\u00fcr harte M\u00e4nner und hei\u00dfe Girls ist?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> „Cowboy Up“ ist was f\u00fcr jeden, der es wagt, anders zu sein und kein Album voller langsamer Balladen haben will. Keiner aber feiert damit so sch\u00f6n wie Rednecks, wir m\u00fcssen es schlie\u00dflich wissen!
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Klasse fand ich die super fette und glasklare Produktion des Albums von dir und Randy<\/i>, habt ihr ein eigenes Studio?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Auch hier muss ich wieder die Lorbeeren an Randy<\/i> weiterreichen. Ihm geh\u00f6rt R.S. Sounds und auch das Studio. Er wickelt auch die wirtschaftlichen Dinge in diesem Zusammenhang ab. Dazu kommt, dass er schon mit vielen Major Labels gearbeitet und quasi sein Leben der Musik-Industrie verschrieben hat. Der Junge kennt sich wirklich in seinem Kram bestens aus… aber erz\u00e4hl es ihm nicht, sein Ego ist schon gro\u00df genug!
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Wie ist die Resonanz insgesamt auf euer Album ausgefallen, jetzt nachdem doch schon wieder eine Weile verstrichen ist?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Das allgemeine Feedback war und ist immer noch gro\u00dfartig. Unsere Popularit\u00e4t nimmt jeden Tag zu und unsere iTunes-Verk\u00e4ufe scheinen dies zu untermauern.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Wann ist mit einem neuen Werk zu rechnen? Vielleicht dann auch mit mehr weiblichem Backgroudgesang (ich liebe weibliche Backs)?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Mit unserem neuen Album kannst du 2012 rechnen. Obwohl wir in der Vergangenheit weibliche Backs bisher nie eingesetzt haben, haben wir gelernt, uns alle Optionen offen zu halten. Man wei\u00df also nie…
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Habt ihr nach zwei so tollen Alben wie „Waitin‘ On Hank“ und Cowboy Up“ \u00fcberhaupt noch Steigerungspotential in petto?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Es gibt immer Raum, sich zu verbessern oder zu wachsen. Am Tag, an dem du allwissend bist, bist du tot. In diesem Gesch\u00e4ft gibt es immer was, von dem man kontinuierlich lernen kann, und so entwickelt sich auch Dry County st\u00e4ndig weiter.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Ich las, dass ihr mittlerweile auch f\u00fcr eine ganze Reihe von namhaften US-K\u00fcnstlern wie Trace Adkins<\/a>, Montgomery Gentry<\/a>, Jason Aldean<\/a><\/span> etc. als Support unterwegs gewesen seid. Ist keine einfache Aufgabe f\u00fcr die gewesen, wenn ihr denen vorher schon so viel Dampf unterm Hintern gemacht habt, oder?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Mit Leuten wie Trace, Montgomery Gentry oder Jason Aldean zu arbeiten war nat\u00fcrlich sehr sch\u00f6n f\u00fcr uns. Es war etwas nervenaufreibend vor den Shows doch am Ende des Tages haben wir den Musikbusinessleuten und – sehr wichtig – auch uns bewiesen, dass wir auf die gr\u00f6\u00dferen B\u00fchnen geh\u00f6ren.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Wie waren die Reaktionen der US-Zuschauer? Meint ihr, ihr schafft es, auch auf dem dortigen Markt Fu\u00df zu fassen, vielleicht sogar mal einen Major-Vertrag zu ergattern?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Die US-Zuschauer haben uns klasse angenommen. 80 Prozent unserer iTunes-Verk\u00e4ufe resultieren von dort her. Manche von denen waren doch ziemlich \u00fcberrascht, dass wir aus Kanada stammen, aber das ist das Gro\u00dfartige an der Musik, sie verbindet Leute. Was den Major Deal angeht, sind wir nat\u00fcrlich offen f\u00fcr alles, aber so lange wir noch genug Geld verdienen, werden wir unser eigenes Ding durchziehen. Klar, so ein Deal w\u00e4re schon toll, aber es muss auch einen Sinn ergeben.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> In Kanada gibt es ja aus dem Country-Umfeld immer wieder sehr tolle Acts, die bei uns alle eher weniger bekannt sind – Doc Walker, Johnny Reid oder einer unserer Sounds of South<\/span>-Lieblinge Melanie Dekker<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>fallen mir da spontan ein – kennt man sich untereinander? Gibt es eine feste Szene? Pflegt man Kontakte?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Die meisten talentierten kanadischen K\u00fcnstler kennen sich untereinander. Wir haben eine relativ kleine Bev\u00f6lkerung im Vergleich zur Gr\u00f6\u00dfe des Landes. Mit 90 Prozent haben wir sicher in der einen oder anderen Form schon mal zusammengearbeitet und meistens waren das auch gute Erfahrungen. Aber da wir so anders sind als unsere kanadischen Kollegen im Country-Business kann das auch schon mal sehr interessant sein.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Bei uns in Deutschland entwickelt sich das New Country-Fieber erst allm\u00e4hlich. Mittlerweile sind aber schon einige Interpreten wie Keith Urban<\/a>, Chely Wright<\/a>, Lonestar<\/a> <\/span>und Eric Heatherly<\/a> mal hier gewesen. Toby Keith<\/a><\/span>, Reba McEntire und Little Big Town<\/a> <\/span>sind angek\u00fcndigt. Gibt es eine realistische Chance Dry County auch mal in Deutschland zu erleben?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Dry County in Deutschland? Es w\u00e4re nat\u00fcrlich riesig bei euch zu spielen. Nochmals, das was ich immer wieder gelernt habe… sag niemals nie. Diese Industrie kann einiges m\u00f6glich machen.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Was treibt ihr so privat, wenn ihr mal keine Musik macht?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Freizeit? Was ist das? \u00c4hm, Randy reist sehr viel und liebt es, Hockey zu spielen. Ich bereise gerne die Inseln und ich schlafe auch sehr gerne. Donald (Laframboise) ist ein wahrer Familienmensch, der seine Tochter zum Campen mitnimmt oder zum Disneyland f\u00e4hrt oder eben alles das tut, was seine Familie gl\u00fccklich macht. Uncle Dik befolgt alles, was seine bessere H\u00e4lfte ihm sagt und – verdammt noch mal – er mag es scheinbar. Und Keith (Silver)<\/i>, hmmm, was zum Teufel tut der Typ eigentlich? Keine Ahnung! Aber alle zusammen m\u00f6gen wir unser Bier. Wir sind eine recht einfache Ansammlung von M\u00e4nnern, mit einem coolen Job und tollen Fans. Jede Band behauptet, sie h\u00e4tte die besten Fans auf der Welt… Dry County hat zumindest die gr\u00f6\u00dfte FAMILIE: Die Redneck Mafia.

Sounds of South<\/strong>: Hello Jeff, first of all congratulations for your brilliant „Cowboy Up“ album again! How is the current situation at Dry County? On your homepage you are a little bit stingy with information.
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> The situation in Dry County is great. We are currently working on the launch of a new website which has been long over due, and are dedicated a lot of time towards the new album.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Randy Solski and you seem to be the driving forces of the band? How is the ‚general chemistry‘ inside of the group?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Although Randy and I are the primary writers and production team, the general chemistry is amazing. We are 5 brothers who would do anything for one another.
\nSounds of South:<\/strong> Who came up with the idea to combine hard guitar riffs with country music?
\nJeff:<\/strong> If anyone can take credit for developing our sound, it would have to be Randy. I swear he never sleeps. He is continually tweeking sounds and analizing every aspect of the Dry County show.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Do you agree with me that „Cowboy Up“ is an album for tough guys and hot girls?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> „Cowboy Up“ is anyone who dares to be different and doesn’t want to buy an album full of slow ballads. Nobody parties like rednecks, we just prove it.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> I was really impressed by the powerful and the crystal-clear album-production. Do you have an own recording studio?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong>Again, I have to give Randy the credit for the production on our albums. He owns and operates R.S Sounds and Productions recording studio. He has worked with many major labels and has dedicated his life to this industry. The guy knows his shit but don’t tell him that, his ego’s big enough already.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> What was the general feedback to „Cowboy Up“ as there has passed some time now?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> The general feedback has been and still is amazing. It’s popularity continues to grow every day, and our iTunes sales back it up.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> When can we expect a new Dry County-CD? Maybe with some more female backings (I love those\u2026)?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> You can expect another Dry County album next year (2012). Although we have never had female back ups in the past, we’ve learned to keep all options open, so you never know.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> Do you think you still have potential for improvement after such two great albums like „Waitin‘ On Hank“ and „Cowboy Up“?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> There is always room for improvement or growth. When there comes a day you think you know it all, yer dead. This business is full of things you can constantly learn from, so Dry County is constantly evolving.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> I read that you supported acts on stage like Trace Adkins, Montgomery Gentry, Jason Aldean etc in the States. No easy job for those, after you gave them a kick in their butts right before, wasn’t it?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Working with some of the big boys like Trace, Montgomery Gentry and Jason Aldean was truly amazing for us. It was a little nerve racking before the shows but at the end of the day we proved to the industry and more importantly to ourselves that we belong on the bigger stages.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> How was the reaction of the US-audience? Do you think you can gain the ground there, maybe even getting a major contract?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> The U.S audiences have been great to us. 80% of our iTunes sales comes from there. Some of the folks down there were a little shocked to find out we were Canadian, but that’s a great thing about music, it can pull people together. As far as a major recording deal goes, we are always willing to listen to offers, but as long as we keep making a buck, Dry County will continue to do our thing. Sure we would love a deal, but it’s gotta make sense.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> In Canada you have many talented Country artists, who are not very well known in Germany – I think of Doc Walker, Johnny Reid or Melanie Dekker, one of our Sounds of South darlings, for example – do you know each other? Is there a permanent scene? Do you have contacts towards each other?
\nJeff:<\/span> <\/strong>Most of our Canadian talent knows one another. we are a very small population for such a huge land mass. We’ve worked with probably 90% of our Canadian talent and for the most part they have been good experiences but Dry County is sooooo different from our colleagues in the Canadian country industry it can get interesting at times.
\nSounds of South<\/strong>: In Germany the ‚New Country-fever‘ has been growing bit by bit. Some acts like Keith Urban, Chely Wright, Lonestar and Eric Heatherly have already played here. Toby Keith, Reba McEntire and Little Big Town are announced. Is there a realistic chance to see Dry County in good ole Germany or in Europe in the near future?
\nJeff:<\/span><\/strong> Dry County in Germany? We would love to perform over seas. Again, something I’ve learned time and time again… never say never. This industry has a way of making things happen.
\nSounds of South:<\/span><\/strong> What do you do in your spare time (besides from the music thang)?
\nJeff:<\/span> <\/strong>Spare time? What is that? Ummm well, Randy does a lot of travelling and enjoys playing hockey. I myself love travelling to the islands, I also enjoy sleeping. Donald (Laframboise) is a true family man who takes his daughters camping, or to disneyland or whatever makes his family happy. Uncle Dik does whatever his better half tells him, and he’ll god damn like it. And Keith (Silver), ummmm, what the hell does that guy do? And as a whole, we all love our beer. We are a simple group of guys with really cool jobs and great fans. Every band says they have the best fans in the world. Dry County has the biggest FAMILY. The Redneck Mafia.
